Since 1999, Your Half Pictures has been developing and producing independent feature-length films and shorts that have played around the world. Comprised of producers Ryan Harper, Rusty Gray, Josh R. Jaggars and Eric Arlt, Your Half Pictures has dedicated itself to working with talented, motivated young filmmakers and developing challenging material, guiding projects from inception to completion.

In its early days, the company built a name for itself within the independent film community by co-producing and offering up production services on dozens of short films, independent features, spec commercials and documentaries. After a decade of working in Production Management for such companies as Michael Bay’s Bay Films and Spike Lee’s 40 Acres and a Mule, Harper directed a segment for the PBS special, “The World Festival of Sacred Music: The Americas.”

For a follow-up, in 2003 Your Half Pictures produced its first feature, the dramatic thriller 30 Miles. Directed by Harper and staring Lawrence-Hilton-Jacobs (“Welcome Back Kotter”) and Rusty Gray, the film allowed the filmmakers to shoot an entire film in 8 days due to the use of HD cameras. Making its premiere at the 2004 Cinequest Film Festival, 30 Miles went on to play the American Black Film Festival in Miami as well the Hollywood Black Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize. 30 Miles will be out on DVD this spring from Maverick Entertainment.

The company recently completed production of the feature film Steel City from writer-director Brian Jun in Alton, Illinois. The film stars John Heard (Home Alone), Tom Guiry (Mystic River), America Ferrera (Real Women Have Curves), Clayne Crawford (Swimfan), Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne”), James McDaniel (“NYPD Blue”) and Raymond J. Barry (Dead Man Walking) and will be playing the festival circuit in 2006.

In between features, Your Half Pictures has found enormous success in producing shorts, a highlight being the critically acclaimed and internationally screened psychological thriller Descent from maverick filmmaker Jay Holben. Descent has played to much acclaim in venues at the Cannes International Film Festival, the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, the Los Angeles Short Film Festival and through the HD Film Festival, on screens around the world. Descent was picked up for worldwide distribution by Apollo Cinemas.

Your Half Pictures is also producing Holben follow-up the documentary CamGirls. CamGirls finds Holben traveling cross-country chronicling the lives of the young women who broadcast their lives onto the internet using webcams. CamGirls is being co-produced by Adakin Productions.

The future of the company sees the development of both large-scale projects as well the smaller productions that have served as the bedrock of the company for over six years. Your Half Pictures has optioned the rights to the book Eddie Would Go from author Stuart Coleman, based on the life of the late Hawaiian big-wave surfer Eddie Aikau. An adaptation of Eddie Would Go is in the making and remains the company’s highest priority for the future. During the development process however, Your Half Pictures continues to look for exciting projects to pursue outside of the Hollywood system, including through the company sponsored Anything But Hollywood screenplay contest.
